KARACHI, May 16: After five successive dismal runs odds on favourite four-year-old dark bay filly Stormy Kiss finally rose to the occasion by claiming a well deserved victory in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

In the absence of big guns, the Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s filly was backed with confidence and obliged punters by running true to her potential in a pillar to post win. She beat bay Arab Hi Arab by seven lengths with champion trainer M. Nasir aboard. She was saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan.

Lucky Friend finished another ten lengths behind to secure third place while Sweet Smile completed the frame in a field of seven runners.

The triumph enabled Nasir to end the day with a fine treble. His other winners were favourites Baap Re Baap and Charlie.

Rider Ghulam Shabbir II also excelled in the saddle sharing honours with his contemporary Nasir. His winners were King Of Mehran, Lucky Gem and Little Girl. In fact, in all the three races Shabbir came as a replacement and presented owner with a winner. Kashif Qamar piloted fancied Birj-ul-Arab to land the other race.

With just one exception (King Of Mehran), Dawn had six winners in a card of seven including the days’ best and good double.

Earlier, five-year-old bay Baap Re Baap completed hat trick when he edged past The Princess Arab by three lengths in the opener with Nasir astride.

The rider later galloped favourite bay Charlie to four-and-a-half lengths victory over Raaz to complete the feat.

Rider Shabbir created quite a stir when he sprinted King Of Mehran to two-and-a-half lengths victory to pick up the next race. He had replaced M. Manzoor on the mount.

Continuing his onslaughts, he steered Lucky Gem to a half length victory over Moment To Moment II in the next race. He came as a replacement of rider Alam. He went on to complete the treble when he powered filly Little Girl to two lengths victory over Fascinate.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sunday.
