SHC issues notices to police officials

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, May 16: The Hyderabad Circuit Bench of Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notices to Regional Police Officer, DPO Hyderabad, DPO Jamshoro K.K. Memon, SHOs of police stations Jamshoro, GOR, Qasimabad and Cantonment for May 23 on a constitutional petition filed by Qazi Abdul Sattar, President High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Hyderabad, seeking registration of FIR against police for restraining them from proceeding to Karachi on May 12.

Mr Kazi was being represented by advocate Noorul Haque Qureshi. According to petition, the HCBA and the Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA) had arranged two coaches to proceed to Karachi as lawyers were interested in welcoming the Chief Justice of Pakistan on May 12.

They made advance payment to coach owners. However, on May 12, at 4am petitioner was informed of the coaches being taken away by the SHO GOR police station, Hassan Abidi with the help of workers of a ruling party. These were taken to the A-section police station.

The SHO informed that he was instructed by adviser to Sindh chief minister on home affairs Waseem Akhtar to impound the buses and hand over to his party.

Later, they arranged another coach and parked it in the session court's premises, while advocates decided to leave for Karachi on their cars. They said when advocates reached sessions court they found that the bus was available but its driver was missing while those present informed advocates that one ASI had abducted the driver for ulterior motives.

He said that when petitioner and other advocates came out from court premises they found two persons in police uniform who were taking away the driver in a private vehicle. However, the ASI was later identified as Mohammad Asim who was made to appear before the sessions court.

He further said that the sessions court ordered registration of FIR against the ASI after advocates filed an application under sections 22-A of CrPC.
