KARACHI, May 16: Sindh Environment Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed has said that more than half of vehicles, especially public transport vehicles, plying in city were old and worn-out.
Chairing a meeting to review measures taken against smoke-emitting and noisy transport, he said such unfit and old vehicles were major cause of pollution. He noted that some transporters were taking damaged motors on roads for their personal interests, which had exposed human health to danger. He said fitness of vehicles should be maintained at all costs in greater public interest and warned that stern action would be taken against operators of unfit vehicles.
Mr Ahmed said awareness should be spread among the operators of smoke-emitting vehicles and drive should be intensified to get positive output.—PPI
