KARACHI: Pakhtuns quash ethnic riots rumours

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 15: Pakhtun Action Committee (Loya Jirga) Chairman Shahi Syed, who is also the President of Awami National Party’s Sindh chapter, has appealed to people, particularly the Urdu-speaking community, not to pay any heed to the rumours that Pakhtuns are planning attacks on their houses.

Terming the rumours a work of miscreants and enemies of people, the PAC chief said they had no quarrel with Urdu-speaking Mohajirs but with the provincial government, terrorists and armed goons responsible for the Saturday carnage in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at his residence on Tuesday, he pointed out that during Monday’s strike, which was observed on the call of opposition parties throughout the country, no property was damaged nor any vehicle was torched anywhere and the strike remained peaceful by and large. He expressed gratitude to all Pushto speaking people for demonstrating restraint and ensuring a peaceful strike.

The PAC condemned the bomb blast in Peshawar in which precious lives were lost and property was damaged. Expressing his heartfelt concern and sympathy with the bereaved families, he noted that the blast appeared the work of those very elements who wanted to divert public attention from the Karachi carnage.

BAN DEMANDED: The Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party has called for disbanding the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and imposing a complete ban on it.

A press release issued by the party stated that the people of Karachi and all major cities of the country had rejected the politics of the MQM by observing a complete strike on Monday. The masses had shattered the MQM dreams to rule the Sindh province with its brutal force, the press release said and added that it was an eye-opener for the military-led government also.

The PMAP also condemned the attempts being made by the MQM to create hatred against Pakhtuns and pit them against other sections of the population.

It urged the federal and provincial governments to quit and pave the way for holding free and neutral elections in the country.
