KARACHI, May 15: Sindh Local Government Minister Muhammad Hussain has said the Sindh Local Government Commission has to play a vital role in ensuring better performance of local body institutions.
He was presiding over the 36th meeting of the Sindh Local Government Commission on Tuesday which was attended among others by Local Government Secretary Fazalur Rehman and MPAs Hameeduz Zaffar and Haji Munawar Ali Abbasi, SLGC DG Khursheed Naeem Malik, Anzar Hussain Zaidi and Abdul Hafeez Soomro.
In the meeting, it was decided that the inspection of City District Government of Karachi would be conducted next month by a team comprising commission members.The minister said the commission would be further activated to ensure better utilization of development funds and provide basic amenities to the masses at an accelerated pace.
He said that the commission’s monitoring system would have to be made more effective to ensure good governance and transparent financial mechanism. He pointed out that the commission had the powers under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance to conduct inspection of any institution anytime.
The meeting was informed that the commission received 1,116 complaints against various elected representatives out of which 562 had been disposed of so far while 554 were under review. Amongst 562 complaints, action was taken on 329 while 150 were referred to concerned district nazims, 13 to police, five to Anti-Corruption, two to National Accountability Bureau and 63 were sent to the concerned UC/Taluka Nazims.
It was also decided that notice would be issued to a UC Nazim of Tando Muhammad Khan for establishing an illegal camp office. He was directed to submit his explanation at the earliest possible.
Regarding illegal appointment made by former Taluka Nazim of Dadu TMA, he was directed to submit his statement within a fortnight.
The local government minister issued directive for computerization of records of complaints and actions taken besides ensuring availability of this record on internet. He directed the committee, set up for streamlining the commission’s working, would present its recommendation as soon as possible.—APP
