KARACHI: Conference at Urdu varsity begins today


KARACHI, May 14: The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and technology (Fuuast) has postponed the first international conference on dendrochronology. An announcement to this effect said that the four-day moot which was to open on Monday (May 14) would now commence on Tuesday (May 15).

Dendrochronology pertains to the study of growth rings in trees to determine and date past events and helps conduct research in climatology, hydrology, glaciers, resource management, pollution, earthquake, etc.

Columbia University and New Zealand labs are extending collaboration to the organisation in the first conference of its kind in Pakistan.

Scientists from New Zealand, Iran and Afghanistan will present their papers at the conference.It was stated that the very purpose of holding this moot is to introduce this discipline in the country and to keep a liaison among those working in this field in the region as well as other parts of the world.—APP
