‘Inzamam should think of retirement’

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, May 13: Wasim Akram admitted on Sunday Inzamam-ul-Haq’s international career is almost over and the former Pakistan skipper should think about retirement from Test cricket as well.

“No doubt Inzamam has been a great player but one should go when the time comes,” Wasim told reporters after giving some tips to the fast bowlers in the ongoing national training camp at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Wasim, however, opined that Inzamam, who quit the national captaincy while announcing his One-day International retirement after Pakistan’s first-round exit at the recent World Cup, should play at least one more series to break Javed Miandad’s Pakistan record of 8832 Test runs. Inzamam needs another 19 runs to reach the landmark.

Meanwhile, Wasim said that apart from all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who is lacking match practice, he found the remaining bowlers keen and eager to learn.

“They are quick learners and are in good physique. I told them to work hard,” he said.

Wasim, who spent 90 minutes at the camp, said that the appointment of Shoaib Malik as Pakistan captain was a good choice with if the PCB was targetting the next World Cup.

He said all cricketers had respect for Shoaib Malik.

Wasim, who will impart training to 22 fast bowlers at the NCA from Wednesday, said more training camps should be organised to produce better bowlers.
