LAHORE, May 13: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) received on Sunday the body of its leader killed in the Karachi violence on Saturday while the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and other political organisations offered ‘ghaibana namaz-i-janaza’ for those killed in Karachi. Leaders later demanded cases against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Husain, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim for killings.

Leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), MMA and Khaksar Tehrik offered funeral prayers for Sindh PML-N Labour Wing office-bearer Asghar Shah, killed in the Karachi violence.

His body was received by the party leaders at the Lahore airport on Sunday.

The funeral prayers were offered at Data Darbar.

Ghaibana prayers for the departed souls were also offered at Data Darbar as part of the MMA-sponsored black day and leaders who participated and later spoke at a roadside rally included PML-N Punjab President Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, MNAs Khwaja Saad Rafiq and Farid Piracha, MPA Shaukat Ali, Hafiz Salman Butt,

PPP’s Haji Azizur Rehman Chan and Ghulam Abbas.

The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Lahore office said leaders from the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf also joined the rally which condemned the regime and the MQM for

letting loose a reign of terror on peaceful people. It said 45 people were killed and another 300 injured “in the worst demonstration of fascism” by the regime and its cronies.

According to the JI, MNA Liaquat Baloch led the ‘ghaibana’ funeral prayers at Nasser Bagh. The prayers were organised by the Islami Jamiat Talaba. The MMA has organised a rally from Nasser Bagh to the Lahore High Court today (Monday), the day on which the MMA has called for a nationwide strike showing solidarity with the Karachi carnage victims.

The JI Lahore has set up a committee to negotiate with traders to close their business in protest against the tragic incidents, the JI handout says.
