TOBA TEK SINGH, May 13: Labour Party Pakistan (LPP) central secretary-general Farooq Tariq has demanded of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to resign from their offices.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the present rulers should step down after the killing of several people in Karachi on Saturday and Sunday.

He said that general elections should be held within 90 days under the supervision of an interim government comprising office-bearers of NGOs and politicians, who would not contest the elections.

Mr Tariq said the MQM had again started the politics of terrorism that would create hatred among the people of various provinces.

He also demanded a probe into the Karachi incident through a judicial commission, which should be consisted of at least three Supreme Court judges.

He announced that his party fully supported the strike call of opposition parties against the government on Monday (today).

LPP district coordinator Tariq Mahmood and party’s Kissan wing leader Waseem Nisar were also present on the occasion.

RALLY: Opposition parties on Sunday took out a rally to condemn the killing of political activists in Karachi.

Workers of the PML-N and PPP marched from Shorkot Road while MMA workers joined them at the Clock Tower intersection from where they jointly ended the rally at Saddar Bazaar intersection.

They said that a complete strike would be observed on Monday on the call of opposition parties.
