Journalists condemn attack on TV channel

Dawn Report

ISLAMABAD May 12: Journalists in different parts of the country condemned the attack on the offices of a private TV channel in Karachi on Saturday.

In Islamabad, mediapersons covering the Pakistan Muslim League rally left the seats reserved for them and staged a sit-in in front of the main stage. They chanted slogans against the “hooliganism” of a government’s coalition party in Karachi and demanded immediate arrest of and punishment to the culprits.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani, secretary for information Syed Anwar Mehmood and two other ministers visited the protesting journalists.

Mr Durrani assured the journalists that their grievances had already been taken notice of and he had talked several times to the chief of Aaj TV in Karachi and told him about government’s actions.

However, the journalists refused to end their protest till the incident was condemned by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and action was assured against the people responsible for the attack. The prime minister later did so.
