FAISALABAD, May 12: The district bar association on Saturday staged a protest rally and sit-in against the killings in Karachi and passed a resolution for the registration of a case against the president, the prime minister and others responsible for it.

Holding banners and placards, the lawyers marched from the DBA premises to various parts of the city and staged a sit-in near Katchery Bazaar Chowk where they broke the windowpanes of a car when its owner reportedly misbehaved with some lawyers.

The DBA general house meeting adopted a resolution against the government for disrupting peace in Karachi, demanding registration of a case against President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, MQM head Altaf Husain, Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and chief minister Arbab Ghulam Raheem.

DBA president Tanveer Randhawa said a general house meeting had again been called for tomorrow (Monday).

VEHARI: Bar associations in Vehari, Mailsi and Burewala boycotted court proceedings while reacting to Karachi killings.

They alleged that the incident was pre-planned and the Sindh government was involved in it. They announced complete strike for Monday, also condemning attack on Aaj TV office in Karachi. Police in Vehari heightened security.

Most of the offices and educational institutions wore a deserted look in the wake of the Islamabad rally.

MULTAN: The high court and district bar associations announced complete strike for Monday as mark of protest against violence in Karachi that resulted in loss of lives.

They decided not to allow the MQM leaders to address the bars in future and demanded that the Pakistan Bar Council and the provincial bar councils should ban the MQM leaders. The lawyers also took out rally at Katchery Chowk.

The lawyers condemned the violence and pledged to continue struggle for the independence of judiciary.

Leaders of opposition parties also took exception to the bloodletting.
