HYDERABAD: Contractors urged to complete work before monsoon

HYDERABAD, May 12: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed consultants, contractors and officials of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to complete work on the sewerage and drainage schemes before onset of monsoon season to prevent a repeat of last year’s situation.

Inspecting work on water and sewerage lines and other development projects in the city on Friday the nazim said that the district had overcome about 90 per cent of drinking water problem.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on some projects and directed the contractors to work round the clock to complete it before time. He also directed Wasa officials to ensure supply to all the localities which faced shortage of drinking water.

LUHHS: Newly-appointed vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Prof Dr Noshad Ahmed Shaikh on Saturday urged the faculty to pay maximum attention to undergraduate and postgraduate education in the university.

He presided over a meeting

of the university’s academic council which approved formation of board of study of radiology and decided that six weeks’ summer vacation would commence from June 1, 2007, and examinations would b held as per schedule.

FISH BREEDING: The Directorate of Fisheries announced on Saturday that fish breeding training programme in different districts of the province would be held from June 19 to 23.

Eighty-seven fishermen would be provided training in hatchery at Chillia Hatchery Centre in Thatta, Mando Dero in Sukkur, Dokri in Larkana, and Bubak in Jamshoro.

The Trainees would be given stipend of Rs150 per day during the training period.
