Storm smashes mango orchards

BAHAWALPUR, May 11: Mangoe orchards were badly hit in the area due to sand-cum-windstorm, which lashed the city and suburbs on Thursday night.

The 60 mile-per hour storm continued for about an hour, which damaged the mango fruit and the wheat crop. Due to the windstorms, the mango production is likely to go down thus shooting up mango price in the coming days.

The storm also disrupted telephone and electricity services and many parts of the city remained in darkness for hours. Several roadside trees were blown down in the storm and signboards of shops also fell down. No loss of life was reported.

STRIKE: Lawyers observed strike against firing at the residence of Supreme Court Bar Association President Munir A Malik in Karachi on Thursday. Lawyers held meetings, in which they assured their support to Mr Malik.

NO ARREST: Police failed to arrest the killers of Rana Zakaullah, who was killed by four people near Farid Park in Model Town B on Thursday.
