HYDERABAD, May 10: The Sindh University Teachers’ Association has expressed concern over the final show-cause notices issued to Dr Mehtab Ali Shah and teachers Zafarullah Tanwari, Muzaffar Ali Talpur and Ayaz Haider Mugheri by the university authorities.

President of the association, Dr Inayatullah Shah, and secretary, Badar Soomro, in a statement have appealed to the vice- chancellor to withdraw the show-cause notices in the larger interest of the alma mater.

They observed that no one in these modern times could even think of dismissing from service academics for exercising right of freedom of expression. They further said that the action may give rise to adverse consequences and tarnish image of the university.

They concern over a statement made by federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and said that the minister had claimed that Sindhi people were not meritorious. They reminded the minister that Sindh had produced people like Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and many top-notch academia and politicians, etc.

They demanded removal of Mr Sarwar from the job and an inquiry against those who were discouraging the Sindhi people and giving arbitrary remarks against them.

FAREWELL: Sindh Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaikh, while appreciating the services of Dr Ghulam Hyder Jamro, has said that he is a top class agronomist whose 35 years of services in teaching, research, technology transfer and international contribution will be remembered for long, reports PPI.

Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaikh was addressing the farewell reception given in honour of Dr Jamro, professor of the department of agronomy of the SAU and a member of university syndicate on his retirement.

The farewell reception was attended by the faculty deans, heads of various sections, senior professors and others.

Dr. Ghulam Hyder Jamro received his MSC degree from the SAU and PhD from a Union of Soviet Socialist Republics institution.
