HYDERABAD, May 9: A judge here on Wednesday ordered medical examination of a class-IX student of the Petaro Cadet College to determine his age after he was produced in the court by police for obtaining his remand in a case relating to murder of his uncle.
Rehman Malik, son of Mohammad Sadiq Malik, was produced handcuffed before civil judge and judicial magistrate-IV Syed Nadeem Zafar Hashmi Shahzad by the Bulri Shah Karim investigation police in the murder case of Abbas lodged on a compliant of the deceased’s brother, Babar Ameer Chattha.
“I had just arrived home in Tando Mohammad Khan’s Mushtarka Colony from the college after appearing in class-IX examinations when I was arrested by police in the wake of the murder of a stepbrother of my mother in Bulri Shah Karim,” he told Dawn, denying his involvement in the murder.
His mother, Mrs Malik said her stepbrother was killed on May 6 in Bulri Shah Karim and, according to her, his own brother was involved in the murder. She said she had a land dispute with her stepbrothers for 16 years when her husband had died. She said her son had got nothing to do with the murder.
The court asked the boy’s mother to produce documentary evidence about the age of her son. She said he was 14 years old but she would have to obtain documents from Tando Mohammad Khan, adding that police were claiming that he was aged 19.
To determine the age of the boy, the court remanded him in police custody for two days with directives to police to produce him before a medical board. He would again be produced in the court on Saturday.
ILLEGAL DETENTION: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-I on Wednesday recovered a man detained illegally at the women’s police station, during a raid conducted on directives of the sessions judge of Hyderabad.
Haneef had submitted an application before the sessions judge, seeking recovery of his son. He said he had been detained there for six days and police were demanding Rs50,000 for his release. He said his son was being questioned about the marriage of his friend with a girl of his village.
