FAISALABAD, May 9: Teachers belonging to state-run schools of the district held a one-day hunger strike camp outside the MC High School on Kotwali Road on Wednesday.

The participants demanded immediate end to contract system and abolition of monitoring committees. They urged the government to pay teaching allowance, grant them promotions and resolve other issues as promised by it.

The hunger strike camp started at 10am and terminated four hours later.

Addressing the participants, Muttahida Mahaz Asatza Pakistan chairman Hafiz Nasir and others said the government promised that it would resolve teachers’ problems, but it has done nothing as yet. The teachers were left with no option but to launch a protest drive.

They said they would stage a protest rally on May 16 in Lahore to press the government for acceptance of their demands.

Meanwhile, they announced that they would not supervise primary and middle standard examinations and boycott the training sessions being conducted for the purpose.

GANG RAPE: Nishatabad police registered a case on Wednesday against three boys for raping an 11-year-old girl.

The girl, a resident of Madni Colony, was on way for shopping when her neighbours Shahzad, Wasim and Imran kidnapped her.

They took her to a deserted place and left her in a pool of blood.

The victim was admitted to hospital.

Police claimed that the accused have been arrested.
