KARACHI, May 9: Police on Wednesday arrested a number of people for allegedly planning to attack the rally of Chief Justice of Pakistan in Karachi on May 12. Officials said on Wednesday night the arrests were made in Lines Area, Shah Faisal Colony and Malir over the past 24 hours.

They said those arrested were wanted by police in several cases of heinous crimes.

Chief Minister’s Adviser on Home Affairs, Waseem Akhtar, told Dawn that the arrests were part of measures taken by police to ensure security during the rallies of the Chief Justice and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Saturday.

The officials said that some of the suspects disclosed that they had planned to attack the rally of the chief justice.

They said the suspects were being interrogated by police investigators.

Sources, however, said those arrested were activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, and most of them were wanted in several criminal cases.
