Rival groups eye madressah

SANGHAR, May 7: A large number of students have left a madressah here fearing a clash between two groups over its ownership.

The Madressah Tahseen-ul-Quran, located near the Shadadpur railway station, has been a bone of contention between the groups of Maulvi Abdul Rehman and sons of late Qari Yusuf respectively.

On Monday, police intervened in the matter on the call of late Qari Yusuf’s sons, Zahid, Khalid and Rashid.

The madressah had been jointly managed by Maulvi Abdul Rehman and late Qari Yusuf for years. After the death of Qari Yusuf, Maulvi Rehman took over its control. The problem of possession arose when the sons of Qari Yusuf expressed a desire to run the madressah.

On Sunday, police threatened the family of Maulvi Rehman and arrested Maulvi Ghazi, an associate of late Qari Yusuf.

However, on Monday, police vacated the madressah and handed it over to Mr Zahid and his group.

Tension between the two groups was running high till the filing of this report.
