‘Muslims need to obey rulers’

ISLAMABAD, May 7: Imam and Khateeb of Al Masjid Al Haram Mohammad bin Abdullah as-Subayyal has said that ulema, religious students and ordinary Muslims must listen to Muslim rulers, obey them and not rebel against them.

However, responding to questions relating to responsibilities of the government, ulema and people in a Muslim country, he said the Muslims rulers must adhere to the injunctions of Sharia, provide justice to the people and remove injustice.

According to a statement by the imam: “A number of Pakistani brethren, imbued with fervour and zeal for their faith, Ummah and country, approached us to a give a word of advice to our Muslim brethren in Pakistan on the ongoing events in Islamabad.

“Don’t forget that Pakistan is a great Muslim country, a fort of Islam, as described by the late king Faisal, and which indeed is considered a protective armour to the Muslims. Your country enjoys a distinguished and coveted place in the Islamic Ummah as it possesses a weapon of which the enemies of our Ummah and religion are terrified, so you need to protect this blessing and be united against them,” he said.—APP
