HYDERABAD, May 7: Activists of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) staged a demonstration followed by a token hunger strike outside the press club on Monday against the arrest of Awam Dost Panel nazim Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah of union council Moosa Khatiyan.

PPP MPAs Pir Amjad Shah Jilani and Zahid Ali Bhurgari said that the rulers had started harassing PPP workers to compel them to change their loyalties.

They condemned raids by police on homes of PPP activists and arrest of ADP nazim, and demanded that the government should release him immediately.

Reports reaching here from Tandojam said that the councillors of UC Moosa Khatiyan led by naib nazim Mohammad Sharif Sipyo staged a rally from the UC office to the local press club where they observed a token hunger strike in protest against the arrest of their nazim.

They alleged that their nazim had been punished for being vocal in the district council and raising voice in favour of people. He was pressurised by PML-Q leaders to join the ruling party and when he refused he was implicated in false cases, they alleged.

They demanded that Syed Shafqat Shah should be released forthwith and all the false cases registered against him and councillors should be withdrawn.
