KARACHI, May 7: Police arrested on Monday two suspects in the murder case of an Azerbaijani woman, who was shot dead on May 2 in an apartment in Clifton.

The suspects, both in their late 20s, were identified as Mohammed Asif, a real estate dealer, and Shahid Ali, a grocery shop owner.

Police said a special team was formed by the DIG investigation-1, Manzoor Mughul, to track down the suspects. They said the police also seized a 9mm pistol used in the crime and a Honda Civic (AHP-454).

Joannayal, 27, had come from Azerbaijan some three months back and stayed with her countrywoman Izmira in a Chapel Garden apartment in the Boating Basin police limits. Izmira had been here for quite some time. Both women were present at the apartment when someone rang the doorbell. Joannayal went to open the door and before opening it as she peeped through the door the gunmen opened fire at her.

The Boating Basin police had initially registered the case against unknown culprits on the complaint of Izmira.

Meanwhile, the investigation team of Jamshed Quarters arrested two brothers, Mohammed Ramazan and Mohammed Akbar, who were wanted in the murder case of Mohammed Salim, registered with the Baldia Town police. The police said an unlicensed TT pistol was seized from the suspects.They said the same investigation police team arrested two suspects, Ghiyasuddin alias Baba, and Kashif Majeed, and seized from them an unlicensed TT pistol and a stolen motorcycle (KAE-9604).The police said the two suspects were wanted in the murder case of Sohail.

The police said the investigation team of Landhi Town arrested a notorious criminal, Shaukat Ali Lasi alias Ashok, who was wanted in several cases of murder, robbery and drug trafficking.

Besides, the city police arrested 20 suspects on different charges during the past 24 hours and seized from them 12 pistols, 510 grams of hashish, two daggers and a snatched cellphone.
