KARACHI: Working children rally for equality in education

KARACHI, May 6: Hundreds of working children enrolled in the schools managed by a private charity took out a rally to demand equality in education. Later, they cleaned the beach to give a message of better environment for the metropolis.

The programme was organized by the Zindagi Trust, a private charity that operates several schools for the children forced into child labour.

The rally started from the intersection of Khayaban-i-Bahria passed through the Seaview and culminated at the Beach Park, covering approximately 1.5 kilometres. Over 1,000 students accompanied by 59 teachers, staff, donors and media men took part in the rally, titled ‘Zindagi Walks… Clean Environment for Growing Minds’.

President of the Trust and known singer Shehzad Roy said on the occasion that the programme was aimed at teaching students the importance of clean and healthy environment highlighting the concept of equality in education.

City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, Munawwar Saeed, Humayun Saeed and Mahnoor Baloch were among the prominent figures who were present.

Shehzad Roy and Rahim Shah performed at a concert which was arranged on the occasion.
