KARACHI: Sleeplessness causing health problems: PMA
KARACHI, May 6: The Pakistan Medical Association, Karachi chapter, has expressed concern over the rising trend of sleeplessness and unbalanced diet among citizens causing different kinds of diseases.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the PMA said heart and stomach diseases, diabetes and obesity were on the rise due to these habits.
People go to bed late in night after having oily meals especially in parties. They neither take daily exercises nor participate in sports.
The PMA said fatness among children was increasing rapidly because they seldom take part in outdoor games and usually spend leisure hours watching television and playing indoor games.
“Late sleeping also affects work performance of the employees because they reach their offices late. Children also face difficulties to reach schools on time. Late sleeping also affects children’s mental growth and memory,” the PMA said.
Having regular schedule for meal and sleep, early rising in morning and taking proper physical exercises are very necessary for good health, the statement added.
The PMA urged the provincial government to bound mirage halls to close their business by 11pm for better health of people. It asked people to avoid late sleeping and eating late in the night to keep themselves healthy.—PPI
