LAHORE, May 5: Hundreds of students from Punjab University and other local institutions are camping on The Mall since afternoon to welcome suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The students have decided to present a sword to the CJP on his arrival in Lahore. The sword, called the ‘Sword of Justice’, will be presented to the CJP by IJT Nazim-i-Ala Nasrullah Goraya.
The IJT activists have put up a 200-metre long banner on The Mall inscribed with slogans like ‘Students and lawyers to fight jointly against dictatorship’, ‘We need teacher and not an army general’, ‘Restore innocent students’, ‘We need books and not music’.
The students have set up sabeels to offer water to the participants, while the King Edward Medical University students a medical camp to offer first aid to protesters.
IJT central press secretary Hamidur Rehman said some 500 to 700 students were camping on The Mall and would stay till the arrival of the CJP.
He said the IJT had also decided to join lawyers in their campaign to save judiciary on regular basis.
