Three PPP men shot at, injured by police

MANDI BAHAUDDIN, May 5: Three PPP workers suffered bullet injuries when police opened fire on their car near Ahmad Nagar, Gujranwala, on Saturday morning. According to PPP information secretary Muhammad Husain Shakir, Nawaz

Mangat and his friends Ijaz Chattha and Shahbaz Chattha were going to Gujranwala on his car to attend CJP’s reception.

Police have set up a picket at Ahmad Nagar and signalled the car to stop. But, they ignored the signal and police spread bullets on the car, injuring all of them.

The wounded workers have been shifted to the Gujranwala DHQ hospital.

He demanded a probe into the incident and action against the policemen.

ROADS BLOCKED: The district police blocked all roads leading to the GT Road and Gujranwala on Friday night in order to block the lawyers from receiving the CJP.

General bus stand and wagon stand were also evacuated by the police in order to stop political workers and lawyers to go to Gujranwala or come on the GT Road.

The closure caused a lot of trouble to commuters, especially women and children, in reaching their destinations.

However, a District Bar Association caravan comprising 50 vehicles, led by its president Muzaffar Iqbal, could reach the Jhelum bridge breaking all hurdles.

SUSPENDED: The Mandi Bahauddin EDO (revenue) suspended patwari Ziaur Rehman Ranjha posted at Mauza Kalowali on Saturday on fraud charges.

The patwari had not deposited Rs560,000 government dues in the public exchequer.

A departmental probe has also been started against the patwari.

WHEAT PROCUREMENT: The food department has achieved 27 per cent target of wheat procurement in 10 days and purchased 72,140 bags at six centres in the district, officials said on Saturday.

The target for the season is 27,000 tons and 1,240 bags have been purchased at the Mandi centre, 5,800 at Malikwal, 13,000 at Qadirabad, 18,500 at Bherowaal, 16,000 at Gojra and 17,600 at Jano Chak.
