HYDERABAD: PPP hits out at govt over nazim’s arrest

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, May 4: Sections of law being used against the arrested union council Nazim, Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah, indicate as if he is a terrorist or has committed treason, says Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman.

The Deputy Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly and Divisional President People’s Party Parliamentarians Hyderabad said this during a press conference on Friday while condemning the arrest of Awam Dost Nazim of the UC Moosa Khatian.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that a reign of terror has been let loose on the PPP leaders and workers to make them join the PML, adding that a large number of party workers were languishing in jails in false cases.

Unlike the Q-League workers who are always ready to switch over their loyalty, the PPP activists remain steadfast to their party, he said.

Warning the government people to remain justified, he said, one should fear the nature as `what goes round comes round.’

Jamiluzzaman criticised the government claim of treating the PPP leadership and workers with leniency as they’ve entered into a deal. He said if filing of false cases against the party chairperson, Ms Benazir Bhutto and implicating Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah and Junaid Buland (Mirpurkhas) was leniency, then the PML-Q can trust that its leaders and workers would be dealt with more leniency once the PPP came into power.

He reminded the government that Sindh was the creator of Pakistan but the present government is trying to divide and distort its historical identity.

He said, first Larkana and Hyderabad were bifurcated and now ideas of bifurcating Khairpur, Thatta, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur were making rounds.

He said after plundering the resources of Sindh the government has now decided to bifurcate Thatta district and allot the coastal belt to outsiders.

He said, the Musharraf government has claimed to have broken the begging bowl but the people of coastal belt of Thatta and Badin are living in abject poverty. Then why General does not give these people jobs when the country has become so rich, he enquired?

Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman alleged that General Pervez Musharraf had given the task of breaking Sindh to Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

He warned the chief minister to desist from dividing the Sindh, otherwise history and people will never forgive him and he’d be facing the music and made it clear that his party will never ever accept the division of Larkana or other districts.Referring to the scheduled visit of President to Thar, he said roads of Sindh wore a deserted look as the entire public conveyance has been impounded.
