Asim Shafik inquarter-finals

LAHORE, May 2: Second-seed Asim Shafik outplayed Hidayatullah 6-3, 6-2 to book his place in quarter-finals of men's singles of the Pakistan Open tennis for Nazim Cup at the Royal Palm Club on Wednesday.

Top-seed Aqeel Khan won 6-0, 4-0 as his opponent Abdullah Sheikh got injured and could not continue the match.

In boys' under-17 pre-quarter-finals, S. Zohair Raza defeated M. Ghufran in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).

Hamza Pataudi stole the limelight when he outclassed Haider Ali 6-0, 6-1 in boys' under-14 quarter-finals to confirm his berth in semi-finals.

Men's singles (pre-quarter-finals):

Aqeel Khan bt Abdullah Shiekh 6-0, 4-0 (ret.); Jalil Khan bt Shahzad 6-3, 6-1; M. Shafiq bt Munir Ashiq 6-0, 6-4; Asim Shafik bt Hidayatullah 6-3, 6-2.

Boys U-17 (pre-quarter-finals):

M. Abid bt Ali Sheikh 6-1, 6-2; Hidayatullah bt Farhan Shahid 6-2, 6-0; Waqas Malik bt Hasan Riaz 6-1, 6-3; S. Zohair Raza bt M. Ghufran 6-1, 6-1.

Boys U-14 (quarter-finals):

Syed Zohair Raza bt Hassan Shahid 6-1, 6-1; Ahmed Babar bt Hamza Naseem 6-1, 6-1; M. Abid bt Ahmed Chaudhry 6-1, 6-2; Hamza Pataudi bt Haider Ali 6-0, 6-1.
