LAHORE, May 2: Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought a report on a petition filed by the victims of Double Shah who had been arrested on charges of hoodwinking thousands of people on the pretext of doubling their money in 70 days.
The court sought the report in two weeks from the provincial government, the National Accountability Bureau and the Anti-Corruption Establishment.
Some of the affected clients have filed the petition through Advocate Dr Abdul Basit. It demanded that all the functionaries under the control of the government should be permanently restrained from further investigating the scam.
The counsel requested the court that a high-level judicial commission should be appointed to probe the matter. He argued that there were 30,000 victims of Syed Sibtul Hassan Shah who won confidence of the people as they deposited their money without having a proper receipt.
“He actually hypnotised them through a nod as Double Shah was considered a guarantee more reliable than a signed bond,” read the petition.
The commission should have the mandate to find out the precise amount recovered from the possession of Double Shah and to take steps for investment of this money in some profitable schemes so that the amount could be distributed among the genuine depositors in a proportionate and systematic manner, added the counsel.
