Govt move on CJ’s Lahore travel plan

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 2: The government has decided to file an application to Acting Chief Justice Rana Bhagwandas on Thursday requesting him to stop Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry from travelling to Lahore by road for security reasons.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the Prime Minister House on Wednesday.

Presided over by the prime minister, it was attended among others by officials of the ministry of interior and security agencies.

However, lawyers’ organisations have been insisting on taking him in a big cavalcade to Lahore so that their colleagues in various towns could greet him.

Earlier, the Government of Punjab had offered to the CJP to travel to Lahore in a special plane.

The high-level meeting reviewed the overall security situation with special reference to the recent suicide blast at Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao’s public meeting.
