Team to visit Kabul for talks with Karzai: Sherpao

MANSEHRA, May 1: Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said on Tuesday that a high-level Pakistani delegation would leave for Afghanistan on May 3 to discuss with President Hamid Karzai measures to prevent acts of terrorism on both sides of the border.
He was talking to journalists after attending a public meeting here on Tuesday.
Mr Sherpao said that the delegation would discuss with Afghan leaders joint efforts needed to restrict cross-border movement of terrorists.
“The Afghan government should trust us and cooperate with us in our efforts to eradicate terrorism from the two countries as we have a long common border,” the minister said.
He expressed satisfaction that all political and religious parties had unanimously adopted a resolution in the National Assembly condemning Charsadda suicide bombing.
“This is for the first time that all religious and political parties have jointly condemned terrorist activities in the country, and I hope that the parties will extend their full support to the government to bring these acts of terror to an end,” he said.
Earlier, speaking at a meeting at Chatterplan, Mr Sherpao said that Islam is a religion of peace which preaches brotherhood and harmony not only among Muslims but also among followers and adherents of other religions.
“Islam does not allow Muslims to kill any human being. But, some fundamentalists and terrorist elements are inciting young people to kill their own brothers. Killing an innocent person is not a service to Islam,” he said.
The minister said that the Charsadda bombing had boosted his resolve to root out terrorism from the country.
“God willing, I will try my best to bring these terrorists to justice because they have tarnished the image of Islam across the world,” Mr Sherpao said.
