Seeded players move ahead

LAHORE, May 1: More seeded players entered the last-16 stage of the Pakistan Open tennis for Nazim Cup at the Royal Palm Club here on Tuesday.
Second seed Asim Shafik, outclassed M Tahir 6-0, 6-1. Fourth seed Nomi Qamar powered past Ahmed Hamid 6-1, 6-1 in another one-sided match.
Similarly, seventh seed Tanveer Ashiq ousted Jalil Afridi 6-3, 6-3.
Even, ageing former national champion Rashid Malik, 44, had no problem in disposing of Haris Syed 6-2, 6-2.
Ninth seed Omer Babar proved too good against Hassan Riaz 6-0, 6-1. Mahmood Khan, Hidayatullah, Hameed Gul and Asif Feroz were the other easy winners.
In the boys’ under-14 Mohammad Abid, Ahmed Chaudhry, Haider Ali and Hamza Pataudi moved into the quarter-finals.
In the boys’ under-17, S. Abbas Raza booked his place in the quarter-finals.
