LAHORE, April 30: Top seed Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan, Mohammad Shafiq, Inam Gul and Munir Ashiq qualified for the pre-quarterfinals after winning their respective second-round matches in the Pakistan Open tennis for Nazim Cup at Royal Palm Club here on Monday.

In the best match of the day Munir Ashiq, who was stretched to three sets by Capt Taimur, defeated his opponent 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0. After holding serves both the contenders were 6-6 to enter the tie-breaker. Munir gave tough time to Munir in the tie-breaker too but lost by grabbing only five points. In the remaining two sets Munir exhibited high-speed game winning the match with ease.

Meanwhile, top seed Aqeel outplayed Hasan Saeed in a one-sided encounter 6-3, 6-0 and Abdullah Sheikh received walkover from Ali Zarrar.

Boys Under-17 singles (first round): Ali Zubair bt Ali Murad 6-3, 6-4; Amanwal Anwar w/o Haroon Rashid; Hassan Shahid w/o Usman Rafiq; Hamza Pataudi bt Behram Khan 6-1, 6-0; M Abid bt Taha 6-1, 6-1.

Boys Under-14 singles (first round); Syed Zohair Raza bt Talha Zubair 4-2, 4-2.
