KARACHI, April 29: A large number of concerned citizens took part in a demonstration held at the Seaview Beach to protest against the so-called uplift of the beach which according to them would restrict the masses’ free access to the sea front.

The participants, including a large number of women and children, of the demonstration, organised by the Sahil Bachao Coalition, were carrying banners and chanting slogans in support of their demands.

They said that they were not opposing the development, but under the project the DHA planned to construct theme parks, marinas, expo centres, hotels, and condominiums on the beach front — which presently was open to Karachiites free-of-charge — and the developers would restrict free entry of the common people to the ocean. They also said that the proposed plan had not been approved by the Sepa.
