PESHAWAR, April 27: The Awami National Party has asked the government to ban illegal FM radio stations, help find the missing people and take action against those who hurl threats at peaceful citizens.

These demands were made through resolutions adopted unanimously at the meeting of the party’s provincial leaders at the Bacha Khan Markaz here on Friday.

The meeting expressed concerns over the illegal FM radio stations which “are spreading sectarian hatred, terrorism and extremism”. The meeting also adopted a resolution calling on the federal government to “release” the missing people immediately so that they could be reunited with their family members.

It also condemned the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and said that holding of free, fair and transparent elections was the only way to end the ongoing crises in the country.

Yet another resolution called for a complete provincial autonomy to the federating units so that the sense of deprivation in the smaller provinces could be dealt with effectively.

It expressed concerns over exploitation of natural resources of the NWFP and said the government should stop the supply of gas and oil from the NWFP to Punjab. It also called for handing over of the control of the resources to the Frontier government.

The provincial chapter of the ANP also expressed its anguish over the rising wave of extremism, terrorism and lawlessness, especially in Fata, and asked the government to calm down the situation.

It said the government had completely failed to establish its writ in the tribal areas due to which the people were worried. It asked the government to take steps to end the growing trend of militancy and Talibanisation in the province as well as in Fata.
