KARACHI: ARD plans rally in Lyari

KARACHI, April 27: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), Sindh chapter, has decided to stage a solidarity rally in support of the ongoing struggle of the lawyers’ community for reinstatement of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, on May 2.

The rally will be held at Lea Market roundabout at 3pm, which will be addressed by ARD leaders. This will be the first ARD rally in Lyari Town.

This decision was announced by the provincial chief of the ARD, Zain Ansari, here on Friday while addressing a press conference after a meeting of leaders of component parties.

According to him, the meeting considered the current political situation of the country and expressed its unanimous view that the present government had failed on all counts.

It also expressed its concern over acts of violence in democratic forums and described Thursday’s incident in the City Council as the worst type of “terrorism,” saying that Opposition members had been manhandled and beaten.

It called for prompt action against all those who were involved in acts of terrorism and their immediate arrest, saying that “brutal actions” would in no way deter the Opposition from the struggle for restoration of democracy.

The ARD meeting also expressed concern over frequent power outages and the water shortage problem in the city, which has made life of the common man miserable.
