KARACHI: Al Qaeda man arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 22: A man believed to be an Al Qaeda operative was picked up in a raid at an apartment in Sharea Faisal police limits here on Sunday.

However, police denied the arrest, saying that no such raid was carried out.

Sources said that the raid was carried out by the personnel of an intelligence agency who took into custody Iqbal alias Akbar, hailing from Afghanistan. Currency notes of many countries were allegedly found on him.

They said that the man could not explain how he came into possession of such a huge sum of money. He was believed to have links with a banned militant outfit in the country and his connections with Al Qaeda could not be ruled out. The sources said he was taken to an undisclosed location for investigation.

BODY FOUND: The trussed up body of a youth bearing torture marks was found in a gunny bag on the shore of Seaview in Clifton here on Sunday.

The Darakhshan police shifted the body to a hospital for autopsy, where doctors said that the man was tortured to death some six days back. The police believed that the body was dumped some time Sunday morning.
