QUETTA, April 8: The Balochistan National Party (Mengal) has said that allotment of 200,000 acres land to the Civil Aviation Authority in Lasbela and the proposed construction of Sonmiani seaport will cause a demographic imbalance and convert the Baloch into minority.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Sunday, BNP-M’s acting president Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini said the party’s central executive committee at a meeting on Saturday discussed the situation in the country in the context of international scenario and took important decisions.

He said that after military operations in Kohlu, Kahan and Dera Bugti areas, the government had deployed security forces in Jhalawan, Wadh, Awaran, Nushki and Panjgur.

He said that law-enforcement personnel backed by helicopters had launched search operations in areas near Wadh and Jhalawan.

Dr Jehanzeb said that extra-constitutional methods used against the Baloch in Dera Bugti and Kohlu had proved that oppression could not subdue political forces resisting ‘state terrorism’.

He said an all-party conference of Baloch parties would be convened soon in which democratic forces, lawyers and intellectuals from the country would be invited.

The BNP-M leader said that the meeting had decided to hold rallies between April 29 and August 26 in different parts of the province to mobilise people against the usurpation of land, resources and the coastal belt of Balochistan.

He said that seminars would be organised at national and international levels to highlight what he called excesses of the security forces against the Baloch.

Dr Jehanzeb said the Karachi jail authorities were not providing B-class facility to party Chief Akhtar Mengal despite the orders of the Sindh High Court.

Habib Jalib Baloch, Malik Wali Kakar, Mir Akbar Mengal and Agha Hasan Baloch were present on the occasion.
