KARACHI, April 8: Excise Police on Sunday arrested a man and seized 30kg heroin, which he was allegedly transporting in a jeep from Peshawar to Karachi, officials said.
On a tip-off, the excise department formed a team and sent it to the Toll Plaza, Super Highway where a vehicle was expected to enter the city limits.
The excise officials intercepted a jeep (LWP-0661) and recovered 30kg heroin hidden in a spare wheel.
The driver identified as Amanullah, a resident of NWFP, was also arrested. Officials said he was being interrogated for further leads.
Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani said the seizure was a part of the government’s policies against drug culture and said the anti-narcotics drive would continue with a commitment to completely rid the province of the menace of narcotics.
DG Excise and Taxation Asif Marghoob said the catch was the biggest in the department’s history of last 15 years. The media was informed that the excise police, in another raid at Naseerabad, District Qambar-Shahdadkot, recovered 200kg Charas.
