KARACHI, April 8: The Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) is the first successful experiment in the history of Pakistan, impacts of which will be felt across the world.

This was stated by the Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development, Ghulam Sarwar Khehro, at a briefing given to him during his visit to second and third resettlement sites of Taisar and Baldia towns on Sunday.

Mr Khehro stressed the need for a coordinated and comprehensive documentary report on the resettlement project to serve as a source of guidance for any future resettlement programme.

He appreciated plantation at resettlement sites through drip irrigation system and said focus should be laid on cleanliness and sanitation in the areas of resettlement in a manner which may become a tradition for the residents to follow.

Earlier, the project director apprised the additional chief secretary about latest situation at resettlement sites and pointed out that more schools would be needed to attain the target of education for every child of resettled families.

Mr Khehro promised that room would be made for more schools at resettlement sites in the annual development programmes to provide a boost to the project efforts towards promotion of education.

He visited various parts of resettlement sites and reviewed the progress of various under-construction schools and other uplift works. He also visited various schools in Taisar Town and talked to students and teachers.

The additional chief secretary was informed that Sindh chief minister, during a visit to the site, had issued directive for construction of road adjoining Ahsanabad Industrial area.

Mr Khehro visited the right of way connecting Taisar Town with the industrial area and assured that immediate steps would be taken for implementation of the chief minister's directives.—APP
