LANDI KOTAL, April 7: The Khyber Agency political administration has destroyed poppy crop on an area of nearly 200 kanals in Bara and Jamrud tehsils. The campaign against poppy cultivation was carried out under the directives of newly-appointed Political Agent Amir ud Din Khan.

The banned crop was uprooted from waste land in Akkakhel and Ali Masjid localities.

Bara Assistant Political Agent Attaur Rehman Aurakzai told Dawn that a similar campaign would be initiated in Tirah valley.

He said the local elders had assured them of their full support in Tirah.

SHOPKEEPERS HELD: The local administration in Landi Kotal arrested a number of shopkeepers and sealed their shops for allegedly selling and showing x-rated CDs in their shops.

Landi Kotal Political Tehsildar Shabir Ahmad Bangash conducted raids on several music centers in Landi Kotal bazaar after complaints by residents about showing of immoral films in the shops.

About 12 shopkeepers were taken into custody after sealing their shops. Official sources said that the shopkeepers would be released after they furnished an assurance about good conduct in future.
