KARACHI: NGO demands safety of heritage site

KARACHI, April 7: The Centre for Environment and Development (CEAD) on Saturday expressed concern on the ongoing mining in the Pir Lakho graveyard, an archeological site in Thatta District.

At a special meeting, the CEAD representatives said the authorities, instead of protecting the archeological sites in Sindh, were engaged in the destruction of archeological treasures. It was decided that the court be moved to halt the damage being done to Pir Lakho site.

A committee was formed to undertake preparatory work in this regard.

The CEAD representatives said the archeological sites of Sindh had great significance vis-à-vis rich past history of the province.

They said Sindh's cultural heritage was an important part of the world heritage and its conservation deserved high priority.—Staff Reporter
