KARACHI: Action against violators of ban

KARACHI, April 2: The Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy, Dr Saghir Ahmed, on Monday directed the officials concerned to take strict action against those who violate ban on polythene bags without any discrimination.

He issued these directives while speaking at a ceremony held to distribute polythene bag thickness-measuring equipment among special teams.

The minister said that it was popular perception that action was taken only against poor and innocent people but the truth was that we were still striving to avoid use of force against innocent people.

He said that citizens and traders should come forward to voluntarily give up use of polythene bags less than 30 micron thickness.

Dr Ahmed said that no policeman was authorised to raid and seize polythene bags in the absence of deputy district officer (Revenue).

He clarified that campaign against polythene bags was not aimed at harassing people but to get rid of use, sale and manufacturing of the same.—PPI
