KARACHI: Four arrested for kidnapping trader

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 31: Police and Citizen-Police Liaison Committee on Saturday arrested four men for kidnapping a local trader for ransom, officials said.

Jalaluddin Sayani, a local garment manufacturer and exporter and resident of Clifton, had been kidnapped with his driver from outside his factory in Korangi on March 20 and the kidnappers had released him after the victim handed them all the cash he had and pledged to pay Rs5 million a few days later.

According to an FIR he lodged with the Korangi police station, the kidnappers took him in his car to Manghopir where his car broke down. The kidnappers took him to an isolated place in Manghopir and made ransom calls to his family.

Mr Sayani said he won freedom after paying over Rs40,000 to the kidnappers and promised to pay Rs2.5 million to them later. The kidnappers threatened of dire consequences if he involved police in the matter.

The CPLC and Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) teams later involved in the proceedings and guided Mr Sayani to get the suspects agree to Rs100,000 ransom.

The CPLC and AVCC suspected driver Manzoor Khan had a hand in the criminal act. The money was given to the driver with the instruction to hand it over to the kidnappers near Zainab Market.

The investigators kept an eye on the driver and found him returning home without handing the money to anyone.

The police arrested him and on his information the parties led by CPLC official Ahmed Chenoy and DSP Aamir Hameed raided a place in Neelum Colony and arrested three others identified named Maqbool Rehman, Jalal Khan and Habibur Rehman. The police are on the lookout for Niaz Khan and Shafi Khan, who are at large.
