RAHIM YAR KHAN, March 30: The lawyers of the city observed strike against the murder of former nazim Sardar Fakhar Mahmood Akbar Kanjoo on Friday. Mr Kanjoo was allegedly tortured to death by police as he was arrested on Wednesday night in a bid to thwart a public meeting of former district nazim Syed Ahmad Mahmood.

Earlier, the body of Mr Kanjoo was handed over to his family on Thursday night. His funeral prayers were offered in the morning at Eidgah. He was buried in the courtyard of Jamia Masjid Akbar, Timber Market.

MPA Javed Akbar Dhiloon, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, senior lawyer Mumtaz Mustafa and Maulana Abdul Rauf Rabbani delivered speeches against the government and police on the occasion.

A big contingent of police was deputed outside the Eidgah.

People raised slogans against police and threw stones on police as a result of which city DSP Arshad Gulab sustained minor head injuries. Later, police dispersed the people.

Meanwhile, City A division police have registered a murder case against unidentified people on Thursday night.

Later, Anjuman-i-Tajran announced a complete strike on Saturday.

The district administration also called a meeting of the peace committee in the evening to discuss the law and order situation in the city
