Chitral people demand amenities
PESHAWAR, March 30: A group of people from Chitral held a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday in protest against lack of facilities in their area and urged the government to take steps for development of the region.
The protesters, led by MNA Abdul Akbar Chitrali, were holding placards and banners inscribed with demands for resolving their problems.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Abdul Akbar accused the NWFP government of ignoring the Chitral district.
He said prices of essential commodities had gone up in Chitral, roads were in dilapidated condition, there were faults in the telephone system and the area was experiencing loadshedding for long hours. He said 12 transformers in the area, which were damaged 12 days ago, were yet to be repaired or replaced.
The protesters demanded that federal and provincial governments should announce a package of Rs200 million for the area.
They warned to block main roads of Peshawar if their demands were not accepted in 10 days.
