ISLAMABAD, March 29: The Senate Standing Committee on Women Development on Thursday demanded that contractual teachers should be provided same facilities that are given to permanent teachers.

According to a press release issued here the Committee also called for creating environment conducive to promotion of quality education and research in the country.

Presided over by Senator Tahira Latif, the meeting was given a detailed presentation on the working, performance and achievements of the Federal College H-9, Islamabad. Director FCE, Mrs Rana Sarfraz informed the committee about the problems the college is facing.

She said that the college not only lacked latest equipment for science laboratory but also faced transport and accommodation problems. She stated that foreign and local training should be provided to the teaching faculty for enhancing their professional skills.

The Committee endorsed the views expressed by the Director FCE and underscored the need for the resolution of the problems being faced by the teachers.

The members of the committee were of the opinion that pre-service and in-service training should be initiated to enhance their capacities in various disciplines and the faculties should be strengthened further.

The Committee also visited various sections of the college and assured its support in overcoming the problems which had plagued the atmosphere of the college.

The meeting was attended by Senators Fauzia Fakhar-uz- Zaman Khan, Semeen Siddiqui, Sabeena Rauf, Dr Kausar Firdous and Engr Rukhsana Zuberi besides representatives of the Ministry of Women Development and the faculty of FCE.
