KARACHI, March 29: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Thursday held the government’s deficient economic policies responsible for ever increasing inflation, joblessness and rampant poverty.
In a statement issued here, MMA leaders Mohammad Hussain Mehnati and Laiq Khan (MNAs), said that though the government has been making tall claims about how the economy was doing fine and foreign exchange reserves were increasing, the latest quarterly report by the State Bank has exposed the government’s claims.
They said that all essential commodities – flour, ghee, oil, rice, sugar etc -- have become expensive and the masses were unable to make both ends meet. They said that though oil prices were coming down in the international markets, the benefit is not being transferred to the public.
They said that owing to senseless privatization of industries, workers were being fired under the garb of downsizing, rightsizing, golden handshake etc, further increasing already rampant unemployment. They said that the number of people committing suicides was increasing owing to such an economically depressing situation.
VC criticised: Islami Jamiat Talba Karachi Nazim Abdul Rasheed has condemned the Dow University vice-chancellor for not allowing students to organize Seerat-un-Nabi (Pbuh) conference in the university.
Talking to a delegation of university students he said that the vice-chancellor, influenced by Western values, permits musical programmes in the university but was not allowing the holding of a Seerat-un-Nabi (Pbuh) programme as he wanted to please his Western masters.
