Tan Man Dhan unlucky to become victim of unjust decision: Pervaiz Hussain Shah sets up new record

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, March 28: Arbab Nur Mohammad Khan’s filly Tan Man Dhan had won the supporting event but was unlucky to lose it on objection during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The half-money favourite filly, piloted by apprentice Shah Nawaz, had won the fourth race, Khushab Plate Class-V Division-XI, contested over 900 metres, defeating Mama Mia by three-and-a-half lengths.

Rana Choice finished third, half a length back.

After the race, M. Wasim Khan and Shakeel Mahmood, the riders of Mama Mia and Rana Choice respectively, lodged objections against the winner for bumping and crossing in the straight.

Stewards of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) sustained the objection in a hasty move.

In fact, both the riders created the false objections to win the lost race.

According to the international rules of racing, an objection is never entertained if the defeat is over two lengths. It is considered as if the loser had no stamina to compete with the winner.

When Dawn enquired the stewards’ decision as video of the race did not show any pressing or crossing, steward Masood Pervaiz claimed that the decision was taken in accordance with the precedents set earlier when similar objections had been upheld.

Meanwhile, luck favoured owner Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah, who set up a new record by winning four out of five races. His fillies – Tosca, Iconic, Mama Mia and Armida – won the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th races. All were steered by M. Wasim Khan and trained by Sohail Aziz.

The previous record was set up by Pervaiz Masood, who had won three races in a day in a card of six events last year.
