KARACHI: Two axed to death by faith-healer

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 28: A 60-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both homeless, were found axed to death near Do Darya in Clifton. Darakhshan police arrested a 60-year-old faith-healer, identified as Kanch Wala Malang, on the charge of killing Sultan and Rehman.

The police said the victims were living under a tree near the seashore. They said the two were found murdered in the morning under the tree where they used to sleep.

The police said the faith-healer had quarrelled with the victims and he killed them with an axe when they were asleep. They said the weapon used in the double murder had been seized from the suspect.

SHOT: A watchman of a bungalow in Gulistan-i-Jauhar was shot and wounded by two dacoits, one of whom was caught red-handed.

Police said two dacoits came at bungalow No D-401, Block 14, and told watchman Mohammed Riyaz, 40, that they had been sent by the house owner for the repair of the water suction pump. They said the watchman became suspicious when the two suspects asked him for the keys of the house.

The police said the suspects opened fire when the watchman struggled with them. They said the alarm raised by the watchman attracted passers-by who overpowered one the suspects, while his accomplice fled.

The suspect, identified as Salim Raza, was later handed over to the police.

The injured watchman was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said the injured man was in a stable condition as he had sustained a bullet wound in his right forearm.

Meanwhile, two persons including a teenaged boy, died here in two different incidents.

Muhammad Hakim, 15, resident of Orangi Town, drowned in a deep ditch filled with rainwater in Muhammadi Colony, Ittehad Town. The body was found and handed over to the heirs after the completion of legal formalities.

A 22-year-old man was crushed to death by an M-4 route minibus (JL-2312) at Regal Chowk, Saddar.

Preedy police said the victim, identified as Salim, was crossing the road when the bus knocked him down.

His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

The body of a 49-year-old drug addict, Zafar Iqbal, was found on the KMC Plot at Lucky Star in the Preedy police limits.
