KARACHI: Sindh PA session resumes today

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 27: The Sindh Assembly will resume its business of the requisitioned session by the opposition on Wednesday after a week of recess.

The Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary Party met at the residence of its leader Nisar Ahmad Khuhro and formulated its strategy.

According to insiders the party has asked its MPAs to ensure their presence on time at 10am so that the treasury benches are not given any excuse to evade consideration of their business, particularly its two main items on the order of the day which include privilege motion of Shazia Marri and others against Chief Minister for his remarks against women in politics.

The other important item is the adjournment motion of Nisar Ahmad Khuhro regarding rigging in recent by-elections held in NA-250 Karachi and Sindh PA-71 Jamshoro.

Last Wednesday, which was the first day of the requisitioned session, the House was adjourned when the treasury benches refused to continue the sitting after Zuhr prayers as the prime minister was in the city and some of the ministers had meetings.

The opposition benches opposed the adjournment saying there was still time to continue its business till 2 pm. Before there was commotion in the House Shazia Marri succeeded reading out her privilege motion despite disruption from half-a-dozen members from the treasury benches as the chair had given her the floor.

However, due to rumpus in the House, her colleagues Sham Mithani, Saira Shaliyani and Humera Alwani, who had submitted identical privilege motions could not make it as the house was adjourned for March 28. Under Rule 58-A of the Rules of Procedure of the Sindh Assembly, “the privilege motions remaining indisposed shall be held over for the next day.

The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Parliamentary Party will meet before the session tomorrow and also hold consultations with Leader of Opposition Nisar Khuhro in his chamber to formulate joint strategy.

The leaders of ruling coalition parliamentary party are also be meeting before the proceedings to attend the session.
